Job Summary
This role involves handling and maintaining various documents related to the intake, confinement, and release processes of inmates within the Orange County Corrections Department. The Specialist exercises independent judgment under supervisory guidance and undergoes periodic performance reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing, notarizing, and processing arrest affidavits and other inmate intake legal paperwork.
- Managing release documents to ensure inmates are released timely and accurately, including bond verifications when applicable.
- Verifying the accuracy and completeness of arrest and court documents, including scheduling and notarization compliance.
- Updating and maintaining inmate data in systems such as Jail Management System, Teletype, FCIC, and NCIC.
- Coordinating with justice partners like the Clerk of Court, Public Defender, State Attorney, and Judiciary to ensure compliance with sentencing, custody, and release protocols.
- Accurately calculating release dates, sentence credits, and authorizations adhering to legal and departmental standards.
- Distributing information to courts, agencies, and the public while maintaining confidentiality and policy compliance.
- Responding professionally and promptly to internal and external inquiries.
- Safeguarding confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Completing additional assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent plus four years of experience in data entry, document handling, and customer service; or an equivalent education-experience combination.
- Must obtain and maintain FCIC/NCIC certification within three months of hire.
- May need to secure Florida Notary Public certification within three months of employment.
- Associate's degree preferred, especially in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or Social Services.
Additional Information
- Selected candidates will undergo pre-employment drug screening, physical, and background checks.
- Candidates must participate in and pass a Corrections Intake & Release Specialist assessment as determined by the Corrections Department.
- Tattoos above the collarbone are prohibited; employees must conceal any offensive tattoos. Unnatural dental ornamentation and wearing gauges during work are also not permitted.
- Veterans' Preference applicants must provide necessary eligibility documents by the closing date.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting pay is $19.94 per hour (Pay Grade 012, Non-Exempt status). Additional shift differentials apply: $0.35/hr for 3pm-11pm shifts and $0.50/hr for 11pm-7am shifts (minimum 4 hours). The benefits package includes:
