Job description
Role overview
Whānau Āwhina Plunket is looking for a motivated and community-minded Injury Prevention Coordinator to join its Community Services team in South Auckland. The role supports child safety and injury prevention work that helps whānau, strengthens communities, and improves outcomes for tamariki.
You will work with whānau, volunteers, community partners, and clinical and community teams to coordinate and deliver injury prevention activities. This includes providing practical education, supporting child restraint installation services, running community education sessions, and developing strong relationships with stakeholders to improve access to support, especially for priority Māori and Pacific communities and other groups facing inequities.
This is a part-time fixed-term position of 30 hours per week, starting as soon as possible and continuing until 25 June 2027. The work combines community-based delivery with virtual coordination, stakeholder engagement, and planning.
About you
The organisation is seeking someone who is enthusiastic about helping whānau, building community connections, and contributing to safer environments for tamariki.
Key attributes
- You build trusted relationships across different communities and audiences.
- You communicate clearly and confidently with individuals, groups, and stakeholders.
- You are comfortable facilitating learning sessions and sharing information.
- You take initiative and look for ways to improve results.
- You are organised, adaptable, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
- You are committed to equity-focused and culturally responsive practice.
- You have a genuine interest in child safety, injury prevention, and community wellbeing.
- You work well with others and contribute positively to team outcomes.
Skills and qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should bring the following:
- Strong relationship-building capability and experience working with diverse communities.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Experience presenting information, leading education sessions, or engaging groups.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective stakeholder relationships.
- Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and quality service delivery.
- Understanding of local communities and confidence working across different settings.
- A full New Zealand driver licence and willingness to travel across the region when required.
- Child Restraint Technician qualification, or willingness to achieve it within three months of appointment.
Experience working with Māori, Pacific, and other priority communities, as well as an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it applies in practice, would be an advantage.
What we offer
