Registered Nurse - North Shore & Whangaparoa

Overview

Whānau Āwhina Plunket is seeking two fixed-term Registered Nurses to support families in the North Shore and Whangaparoa area of Auckland. This is a community-based position with a primary base in Auckland, and occasional coverage elsewhere in the region may be needed as part of team support. These roles are parental leave cover and run for approximately 6 to 8 months, with a combined total of 1 FTE.

The pay range for this position is NZD 66,222 to NZD 94,842 per year, which works out to about NZD 33.51 to NZD 48.00 per hour depending on experience.

What the role involves

Plunket Nurses support the growth and development of tamariki and act as trusted clinical guides for whānau through both positive moments and more difficult times. The work includes visiting families at home and in clinic settings, building respectful relationships, and providing culturally appropriate care tailored to each family’s needs.

In the community, you will also encounter families facing practical and social challenges, especially during a cost of living crisis. Alongside clinical care, the role includes social support to help ensure pēpi are raised in safe and healthy homes.

What you need to succeed

Community nursing in this setting calls for flexibility, sound judgement, and confidence working in a fast-changing day. Appointments may change unexpectedly, visits may run over time, and you will need to respond calmly while keeping the quality of care high and risks low.

You should genuinely enjoy working with pēpi, although most of your direct interaction will be with caregivers. Strong listening skills, tactful questioning, and the ability to work with families from varied backgrounds are essential.

Skills and qualifications

• You must be a registered nurse.
• You need to already have an Annual Practising Certificate, or be able to secure one.
• A current full or restricted New Zealand driver licence is required.
• You should be committed to completing a 12-month Post Graduate Certificate in Well Child Tamariki ora; the organisation will fund this study.
