About Thumbtack

Thumbtack is a platform that assists millions across the U.S. with home care and improvements, offering personalized guidance, AI tools, and an excellent hiring experience. It connects homeowners with a vast network of 300,000 local service businesses for urgent repairs, maintenance, and projects, helping them decide what to do, when, and who to hire.

About the People Team

The HR Business Partners at Thumbtack are primarily business leaders who deeply understand their clients’ goals, culture, and talent requirements. They use both data-driven insights and strong emotional intelligence to identify trends and solve problems, serving as trusted advisors and coaches at all organizational levels.

Role Overview

The company is seeking an HR Business Partner who combines operational expertise with a passion for building AI solutions. This person will collaborate closely with the HRBP team, learning organizational dynamics and developing AI-powered tools that streamline HRBP workflows, like exit interview synthesizers or engagement survey action planners, reducing manual tasks. The role includes client-facing support, AI and operational project ownership, and employee relations responsibilities, reporting to the Director of HR Business Partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees throughout the employee lifecycle, focusing on team effectiveness and engagement survey action planning.
  • Identify and address legal and compliance risks in daily people management while collaborating on global HRBP priorities.
  • Design and implement AI-enhanced HRBP workflows by mapping processes and structuring policies into AI-compatible formats; lead training, rollout, and measure success of AI tools.
  • Support the HRBP team by creating templates, communications, enablement content, and assisting with board preparation, calibrations, and engagement survey analysis.
  • Manage employee relations tasks as needed, including performance improvement plans (PIPs), investigations, policy enforcement, and conflict resolution; ensure consistent documentation.
  • Develop, manage, and iterate AI-based tools to automate HRBP activities based on user feedback and data.
  • Lead the HRBP team’s North America emergency response playbook and contribute to quarterly exit projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of HR experience including HR Business Partner roles, demonstrating use of AI or automation to enhance workflows.
  • Comfortable experimenting with AI technologies, capable of transforming concepts into practical solutions independently or with support.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR functions such as performance management, risk mitigation, coaching, engagement, workforce planning, employee relations, compensation, and organizational culture.
  • Proven success in ambiguous environments collaborating with senior leaders to establish clear priorities and directions.
  • Excellent communication, capable of clearly articulating information and facilitating discussions at management levels.
  • Strong data analysis skills for interpreting workforce metrics and advising leadership accordingly.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and HR technology platforms, and experienced in change management to assist teams through transitions.
