Job description

About Cohere

Cohere is a security-focused enterprise AI company that creates advanced foundation models and complete AI products aimed at solving practical business needs. The team trains and ships frontier models for companies building AI systems, with a strong belief that this work will help accelerate real-world AI adoption.

The company places a strong emphasis on craft and ownership, with researchers, engineers, designers, and other specialists collaborating to improve model capability and customer value. Cohere operates globally and is co-headquartered in Toronto and San Francisco, with additional offices in London, New York City, Montreal, Seoul, Germany, and Paris.

About the role

Cohere is looking for an HR Business Partner to support growth during an important expansion phase. In this role, you will work with the Non-Technical organization and partner with teams across Finance, Legal, People, Go-to-Market, and other Corporate Functions. You will collaborate closely with a Senior HR Business Partner and help leaders shape strong, scalable teams while gaining exposure to complex organizational challenges in a leading AI company.

This position goes beyond standard HR policy administration. Cohere’s HRBPs act as strategic partners who influence how teams scale, how managers develop, and how organizations perform. The role spans organizational design, leadership effectiveness, performance, talent strategy, employee experience, and organizational health within a fast-moving, globally distributed environment.

The company is looking for someone who enjoys building, works closely with leaders, and is comfortable operating in ambiguity.

What you’ll do

  • Support organizational design decisions and improve team effectiveness.
  • Coach managers and help strengthen leadership capability.
  • Contribute to performance, talent, and succession planning discussions.
  • Help improve employee engagement and retention.
  • Play a part in the ongoing development of the People function.

What makes you a strong fit

  • You build trusted relationships with leaders and teams.
  • You take ownership and use sound judgment.
  • You can maintain high standards while leading with empathy.
  • You are comfortable in fast-changing environments.
  • You can solve complex people and organizational problems.
  • You can move effectively between strategy and hands-on execution.
  • You communicate clearly and exceptionally well, especially in asynchronous settings.
  • You bring a collaborative, low-ego approach.

Experience and background

  • You bring several years of HRBP or People Partner experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have partnered with functions such as Finance, Legal, People, Go-to-Market, or similar corporate teams.
  • You have worked in startup, scale-up, or other high-growth companies.
  • You have supported teams spread across multiple geographies.
  • You are an excellent written communicator who thrives in async collaboration.
  • You are eager to learn, grow, and take on more responsibility over time.

Location and working style

This role is fully remote or can be based from one of the company’s office locations, with no minimum in-office requirement. Since the role primarily supports teams working in the Eastern Time Zone, the ideal candidate should be able to overlap significantly with Eastern working hours for close collaboration.

Compensation

The expected base salary for this position is USD 80,000 to USD 150,000. Final compensation will depend on factors such as location, seniority, role-specific knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Perks and benefits

Full-time employees receive a range of benefits, including a weekly lunch stipend of $75/£75 or a local-currency equivalent, full health and dental coverage with a separate mental health budget, RRSP matching, 401K, and pension scheme support. The company also offers 100% parental leave top-up for up to six months for either parent, annual enrichment benefits covering arts and culture, fitness and wellness, quality time, workspace improvements, and learning support for conferences, courses, and coaching.

Employees get six weeks of paid vacation, travel support for trips to other offices if working remotely, an annual company offsite, a daily lunch program and snacks for in-office staff, a co-working benefit for employees located away from office hubs, and a $500 home office stipend to set up a proper workspace.

Additional information

Cohere is committed to inclusive hiring and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. If you need an accommodation during the recruitment process, you can request support and the team will work with you to meet your needs.

The company may use AI-enabled tools to screen and assess applicants against the stated criteria for this position. These tools support recruiter review but do not replace human consideration of applications.

If your experience does not match every requirement exactly, you are still encouraged to apply.
