Housekeeper Needed - Burnaby

Job summary

This role involves delivering non-medical support inside clients’ homes, with a focus on safety, comfort, supervision, and day-to-day household assistance. The position also includes companionship services for people who need social interaction and light guidance to help maintain a secure, tidy, and well-managed living environment.

Qualifications and screening

A minimum of a high school diploma is required. The successful applicant must already have CPR and First Aid certification and keep both current. A Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check must be obtained and renewed every year. The candidate also needs to meet the minimum standards for all required background checks, including criminal background screening, motor vehicle driving record checks when applicable, professional and personal reference checks, and random drug and alcohol testing.

Reliable transportation is essential, along with consistent punctuality and dependability in completing assigned shifts. A valid driver’s licence and automobile insurance are required whenever driving is part of the assignment.

The selected person must complete the Comfort Keepers training and orientation program and be willing to follow company policies and procedures. The job requires someone who can work in a home environment with little direct supervision, build and maintain respectful relationships with office staff, clients, and family members, and follow both spoken and written instructions. The role also includes accurate service documentation. Strong personal integrity, honesty, and a sincere commitment to helping others are important.

Core duties

• Deliver non-medical assistance based on each client’s established care plan.
• Offer companionship through conversation, active listening, reading aloud, and social or emotional encouragement.
• Support the client’s mental engagement by taking part in preferred activities and promoting overall well-being.
• Keep the home clean, safe, and healthy through light housekeeping such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, bathroom cleaning, and laundering clothing and linens.
• Prepare and serve meals when directed, and ensure dishes are washed and the kitchen is left clean afterward.
• Help clients with tasks such as making phone calls, writing letters, and going on walks or community outings, including visits to beauty salons and similar destinations.
• Assist with self-administered medication in line with the company’s medication policy.
• Notice and report changes in the client’s physical, mental, emotional, or home situation to the supervisor promptly.
• Maintain professional communication and good working relationships with clients, families, and co-workers.
• Join training sessions, staff meetings, in-service education, and client conferences as requested.
• Complete service records accurately and submit documentation on time according to policy.
• Use all equipment and supplies in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Protect client privacy and keep all information confidential.
• Carry out other similar duties as assigned.

Working conditions

Work is performed in clients’ homes and may also involve use of an automobile. The role can include exposure to blood or other body fluids, which may present a risk of bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.

Physical demands

This position requires regular physical activity, including driving, helping clients with activities, and completing light housekeeping tasks. The work involves frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, speaking, and hearing. It also requires reaching and lifting up to 12 kg (25 lbs), along with good manual strength and dexterity in both hands.

Compensation

Pay starts at CAD 19.00 per hour.
