Job description
Job summary
This role involves delivering non-medical support inside clients’ homes. The aim is to help people feel comfortable, safe, and well looked after while maintaining a clean and orderly living environment. In addition to practical home support, the position includes companionship and social interaction for clients who need encouragement, conversation, or light guidance.
Key duties
- Support day-to-day non-medical needs according to the client’s care plan.
- Provide companionship through conversation, listening, reading aloud, and other forms of social and emotional support.
- Help create a tidy, safe, and healthy household for clients and family members.
- Carry out light housekeeping such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, bathroom cleaning, and washing client laundry and linens.
- Prepare and serve meals when instructed, and make sure dishes are washed and the kitchen is left clean afterward.
- Assist with phone calls, letter writing, and similar basic errands.
- Accompany clients on walks and community outings such as trips to salons or other activities.
- Support clients in taking their self-administered medication in line with company medication policy.
- Notice and report changes in a client’s physical, emotional, mental, or home situation to the supervisor promptly.
- Maintain positive, professional communication with clients, families, administrative staff, and co-workers.
- Join training sessions, staff meetings, continuing education, and client conferences when requested.
- Complete service records and submit documentation on time as required by policy.
- Use equipment and supplies safely and appropriately.
- Protect client privacy and handle confidential information carefully.
- Take on other reasonable related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
Applicants should have at least a high school diploma. A current CPR and First Aid certification is required and must be maintained. The successful candidate must obtain and renew annually a Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check, and must meet or exceed the standards for criminal background screening, driving record checks where applicable, professional and personal references, and random drug and alcohol testing.
Reliable transportation is essential, along with dependable attendance and punctuality. A valid driver’s license and automobile insurance are required when driving is part of the assignment. The candidate must successfully complete Comfort Keepers training and orientation, follow company policies and procedures, work with minimal direct supervision, and maintain good relationships with office staff, clients, and families.
Strong verbal and written communication, accurate documentation, and a sincere desire to help others are important. High standards of honesty and integrity are expected.
Work environment
The job is carried out in clients’ homes and may also involve use of an automobile. There is a possible risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases due to contact with blood or other body fluids.
Physical demands
This position requires regular physical activity, including driving, assisting clients, and performing light housekeeping tasks. The role involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, speaking, and hearing on a frequent basis. Candidates must also be able to reach and lift up to 12 kg (25 lbs) and have good manual dexterity and strength in both hands.
Pay
Compensation starts at 19.00 per hour.
