The property offers a tranquil setting centered on restoration and nature.
Role overview
The resort is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic horticulturist to manage the care, growth, and improvement of native Texas landscapes, medicinal and culinary herbs, and specialty plants across the property. This role supports the guest experience as well as the food and beverage program by supplying plants used in teas, cooking, wellness activities, and educational experiences.
You will partner with Landscaping, Facilities, Spa, and Food & Beverage teams to build attractive, sustainable, and productive gardens that match the Central Texas environment and the resort’s wellness-focused approach.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, install, care for, and improve native Texas landscapes across the property.
- Track plant condition and apply preventive maintenance practices to keep gardens healthy.
- Create seasonal planting plans and ongoing garden maintenance schedules.
- Control pests, weeds, and plant diseases using environmentally mindful methods.
- Keep irrigation systems operating properly and suggest upgrades when needed.
- Help protect and strengthen the property’s ecosystems and biodiversity.
- Grow, harvest, and maintain herbs, flowers, fruits, and specialty plants used in tea and culinary offerings.
- Work with the Food & Beverage team to identify ingredients for seasonal menus, teas, garnishes, and specialty items.
- Build harvest timelines that support a steady supply of fresh ingredients.
- Document planting activity, harvests, yields, and seasonal results accurately.
- Champion sustainable practices such as composting, water conservation, soil care, and integrated pest management.
- Suggest native and adaptable plant varieties that support pollinators and local wildlife.
- Contribute to long-term garden and landscape plans that align with sustainability objectives.
- Coordinate with Landscaping staff to set priorities for projects and maintenance work.
- Share horticultural knowledge and provide training to landscaping team members.
- Collaborate with resort leadership on landscape upgrades, special projects, and seasonal initiatives.
- Support guest-facing learning experiences related to native plants, gardening, wellness herbs, and sustainable growing practices.
- Maintain inventory for plants, seeds, fertilizers, tools, and other horticultural supplies.
- Support budgeting and purchasing recommendations for garden and landscaping projects.
- Keep records related to plant health, treatments, harvests, and garden performance.
- Take on other duties as operational needs change, including tasks beyond the core job scope when required.
Requirements
- Availability for some nights, evenings, and holidays is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in horticulture, landscape management, farming, botanical gardens, greenhouse operations, or a similar field.
- Strong understanding of native Texas plants and growing conditions in Central Texas.
- Hands-on experience with herb cultivation, edible gardens, or specialty crop production.
- Ability to recognize common plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Background in medicinal, culinary, or tea herbs is preferred.
- Knowledge of regenerative agriculture, permaculture, or sustainable landscaping practices.
- Experience in hospitality, wellness, educational, or public-facing settings.
- Irrigation system knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Dependable, punctual, and strong in professional communication.
- Comfortable handling pressure while maintaining patience and customer-focused service.
- CPR and first aid certification are an advantage, or the willingness to complete training.
- Must have the manual dexterity, hearing, vision, and communication ability needed to follow written and verbal instructions and work professionally.
- Must be comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- The role is subject to changes in responsibilities and duties based on business needs.
- The employer is an equal opportunity organization that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Continuous learning and development are supported, with potential career growth based on performance and dedication.
