About Ottine Mineral Springs
Ottine Mineral Springs is a historic wellness destination located near Palmetto State Park in Gonzales, Texas. Known for its mineral-rich waters and restorative setting, the property offers guests a peaceful place to relax, unwind, and enjoy a nature-based retreat.
Role Overview
The full-time Director of Facilities is accountable for the day-to-day performance, upkeep, safety, and infrastructure of the resort. This position oversees pools, maintenance activities, landscaping, and construction work to keep the property operating smoothly and in line with hospitality standards.
The role provides leadership to the Pools Supervisor, the Construction/Landscaping Supervisor, and other supporting staff. It ensures that guest houses, soaking areas, grounds, pools, and all supporting systems remain in excellent condition to protect the guest experience.
Because the resort depends heavily on its water systems, outdoor spaces, and pools, this role is central to preserving those assets and guiding improvements that elevate the overall experience. The position also requires being on call 24/7 for facility emergencies or other urgent operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage the upkeep, repairs, safety, and smooth operation of all resort buildings, pools, equipment, grounds, and related systems.
- Lead and direct the Pools Supervisor and Construction/Landscaping Supervisor so their teams work efficiently and to resort standards.
- Create and run preventive maintenance plans that protect infrastructure and reduce interruptions to operations.
- Inspect facilities, guest houses, soaking areas, and infrastructure on a regular basis to spot issues and maintain quality.
- Oversee water, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and drainage systems across the property.
- Make sure all guest and operational areas consistently meet cleanliness and presentation expectations.
- Supervise the condition, sanitation, and safety of all pools and soaking spaces.
- Ensure pool operations comply with applicable state and local rules covering safety and water quality.
- Coordinate with pool vendors, service contractors, and chemical suppliers.
- Track pool operating costs, chemicals, equipment, and supply inventory.
- Address pool-related safety or operational issues quickly and effectively.
- Handle preventive and corrective maintenance across the resort.
- Plan and organize repairs and installation work for buildings, utilities, and equipment.
- Identify and drive infrastructure upgrades involving water systems, sewers, electrical systems, and drainage.
- Prepare for seasonal needs such as freeze procedures and severe weather response.
- Keep maintenance logs, operational reports, and other records accurate and up to date.
- Oversee and complete small to mid-size internal construction and improvement projects.
- Set priorities and give daily direction to the internal construction team so work is finished on time and to standard.
- Choose the best project approach by deciding when to use internal labor versus outside contractors.
- Coordinate materials, labor, schedules, and workflow while keeping projects moving.
- Monitor progress and adjust plans to meet operational requirements.
- Track maintenance budgets and control spending.
- Act as the on-site contact for active construction work.
- Work with ownership, the General Manager, and contractors to keep projects on time and within budget.
- Oversee self-performed construction work when needed.
- Support new amenity development such as trails, water features, and outdoor wellness installations.
- Ensure all construction work supports safety and guest experience standards.
- Maintain the appearance and condition of grounds, landscaping, and outdoor areas.
- Guide the Construction/Landscaping Supervisor in preserving the natural and aesthetic character of the property.
- Make sure the grounds reinforce the resort’s brand and overall guest experience.
- Develop and maintain safety procedures, policies, and facility operating standards.
- Ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety requirements.
- Perform safety inspections and correct hazards quickly.
- Oversee resort security staff and facility-related safety protocols.
- Respond to emergencies affecting facilities, infrastructure, or safety.
- Partner with the General Manager to support the resort’s operational direction.
- Assist with planning infrastructure improvements that strengthen the guest experience.
- Contribute to the creation of amenities that make Ottine Mineral Springs stand out as a wellness destination.
- Maintain strong knowledge of resort amenities and directions to and from the property.
- Stay current on OSHA rules, emergency procedures, and safety requirements.
- Take on other tasks as needed to meet changing business needs and guest expectations.
Requirements
- Availability to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.
- High school diploma or GED is required; additional education or credentials in facilities management, pool maintenance, or landscaping are preferred.
- At least 7 years of leadership experience in facilities, engineering, or operations within hospitality, resorts, hotels, or similar settings.
- Experience supervising multiple teams and managing contractors.
- Strong working knowledge of pool systems, water infrastructure, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Background in preventive maintenance program management.
- Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-moving resort environment.
- Strong organizational and troubleshooting abilities.
- Capability to handle emergencies and urgent issues outside normal work hours.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Dependability, punctuality, and professional communication are essential.
- Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure while delivering a high level of service.
- CPR and first aid certification are a plus, or willingness to complete training.
- Must be able to move throughout the resort indoors and outdoors for eight or more hours a day and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing stairs, and pushing or pulling items up to 50 pounds.
- Role requires manual dexterity, hearing and visual capability, the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and professional communication skills.
- Comfort working in both indoor and outdoor environments is necessary.
