Job Overview
The role of HGV Assessor focuses on enhancing the quality of vocational drivers and training programs within DPD. This is achieved through hands-on assessment, induction, driver training, and buddying support. The position supports continuous improvement initiatives within the LGV Training department and ensures smooth operations by conducting site visits to identify and mitigate external risks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform LGV CE assessments consistent with pre-use policies and DPD driving standards across company operations, including agency assessments, annual checks, risk scoring, return-to-work and disciplinary assessments.
- Complete detailed assessment reports and communicate outcomes promptly to the appropriate teams for further action.
- Facilitate LGV CE inductions covering vehicle familiarization and best driving practices according to DPD standards.
- Manage induction documentation and ensure proper distribution to involved departments.
- Provide buddying support for novice drivers across Transport and Network divisions.
- Conduct site suitability visits at DPD locations and customer premises to ensure compatibility with LGV CE equipment.
- Assess routes for Transport and Network to confirm appropriateness for LGV vehicles and equipment.
- Deliver training on specific equipment such as PHV trailers to DPD employees and customer staff.
- Report site visit and training outcomes efficiently, escalating concerns to LGV Training managers to prevent delays.
- Maintain exemplary administrative records throughout employment.
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety & Security procedures at relevant sites and during customer interactions.
- Communicate essential Health, Safety & Security information to drivers, customers, and their staff during assessments, inductions, and training sessions.
Performance Indicators
- Achieve full compliance with the Pre-Use policy.
- Timely completion of assessments and reporting duties.
- Exhibit flexibility and maintain high capacity utilization.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Possess a full LGV CE license with minimum 3 years of driving experience.
- Hold a clean driving license with a strong compliance record.
- Demonstrate willingness to work flexible hours, travel frequently, and stay overnight as required.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Basic proficiency with IT systems.
