Role Summary

The Healthcare Supervisor position is responsible for managing the provision of high-quality, person-centred care services within County Wicklow. This role entails leading a team of care assistants, ensuring healthcare compliance, and maintaining exemplary care standards. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, in-depth healthcare knowledge, and dedication to enhancing client outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform supervision visits and conduct risk assessments for client care
  • Manage onboarding processes for new clients, including preparation of detailed care plans and risk evaluations
  • Oversee onboarding and training for new health care assistants, including assessments
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of care delivered to clients regularly
  • Collaborate with the Care Manager to prepare, review, and update client care plans
  • Address and resolve issues promptly as they arise
  • Foster a positive and cooperative work environment, managing conflicts proactively
  • Assist the Care Coordinator with staff holiday scheduling while ensuring consistent service coverage
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with clients
  • Support Management Team with delegated tasks, including performing Health Care Assistant duties as needed
  • Ensure timely completion of incident reports
  • Maintain current Carer Competency Assessments
  • Report daily complaints to the Branch Manager and provide detailed communication if personally handling the complaint
  • Conduct quarterly client reviews
  • Mentor and guide Health Care Assistants
  • Provide support and be on-call during out-of-office hours
  • Deliver care that complies with company policies and upholds client dignity, privacy, and independence

Qualifications and Training

  • QQI Level 6 Healthcare Award or an equivalent qualification
  • Possess a full clean driving license with access to a personal vehicle
  • Completed training modules including Children’s First, Safeguarding, Dementia Care, GDPR, Basics of Infection Prevention and Control, Hand Hygiene, and PPE procedures in community healthcare

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in basic patient care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and feeding
  • Assisting with client mobility and exercise routines
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities including active listening
  • Adherence to care instructions and organizational protocols
  • Ability to offer companionship and emotional support
  • Familiarity with healthcare equipment and devices
  • Effective time management and prioritizing of tasks
  • Fluency in English and competence in Microsoft Office applications
  • Empathy, compassion, and responsiveness to emotional needs
  • Teamwork skills and the ability to foster a positive team environment
  • Adaptability to changing client needs and healthcare settings
  • Attention to detail and diligence in observation and reporting
  • Physical endurance for demanding healthcare tasks
  • Professional reliability, punctuality, and appearance
  • Commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality

Experience

Significant reputable experience working within healthcare settings is required.

Work Schedule

  • Shift duration of 12 hours, working either 3 or 4 days per week
  • Total of 84 hours worked over a fortnight
  • Availability every second weekend
  • Required availability between 8 am and 9 pm
