Role Summary
The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) Rapid Responder plays a crucial role in providing timely, person-focused care to clients in their homes. This position demands quick responses to urgent care requirements, assisting regular care staff, and maintaining uninterrupted care services.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to emergency requests and deliver immediate care and assistance to clients.
- Rapidly evaluate clients’ needs and implement appropriate care measures effectively.
- Maintain clear communication with care management teams to report situations and interventions.
- Adhere strictly to established care plans and procedures to ensure consistency and avoid client confusion during short-notice care.
- Support clients with daily living tasks including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation.
- Assist with client mobility safely, utilizing equipment and ensuring secure transfers.
- Administer prescribed medications following company protocols.
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support, promoting social engagement and participation.
- Work cooperatively with other healthcare professionals, family members, and caregivers to provide comprehensive care.
- Collaborate closely with the Branch Manager and Care Coordinator teams for effective care delivery.
Qualifications and Training
- Essential: QQI Level 5 Health Care Award or equivalent qualification.
- Essential: Valid, clean full driving license with access to a personal vehicle.
- Additional required trainings include Children's First, Safeguarding, Dementia Care, GDPR, Infection Prevention and Control, Hand Hygiene, and PPE protocols, all provided through HSE LAND and AMRIC resources.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in basic patient care such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Ability to assist with mobility and prescribed exercises.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities paired with active listening.
- Capability to follow detailed instructions and care protocols.
- Providing emotional support and companionship to enhance client wellbeing.
- Familiarity with healthcare equipment and devices used in patient care.
- Effective time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Empathy, compassion, and attentiveness to emotional needs of clients.

Experience
Prior hands-on experience in healthcare or similar settings is mandatory.
Working Hours
This position requires working 3 or 4 days per week, consisting of 12-hour shifts totaling 84 hours every two weeks, including every alternate weekend. Availability between 8 am and 9 pm is required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range from 33,000 to 37,128 annually.
- Mileage reimbursed at 0.44 per kilometer or the option to use a company vehicle.
