About the Role
InisCare, operating from Dundrum, is devoted to the principle that happy caregivers provide superior home care services. We aim to ensure our caregivers receive expert and compassionate leadership support to deliver professional and empathetic assistance, helping individuals lead active, fulfilling lives at home.
The Health Care Assistant role involves supporting clients to live comfortably and safely in their own homes. This includes aid with personal hygiene such as bathing and dressing, assistance with incontinence care, meal preparation, and light housekeeping duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to the latest safety protocols including person moving and handling practices.
- Alert your manager to any concerns about client safety or colleagues’ adherence to safe practices.
- Report any safeguarding issues or suspicions directly to the manager.
- Keep accurate, factual records of all care activities completed during each shift.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with client information.
- Attend all training scheduled by InisCare and uphold professional and safe working boundaries.
- Carry out all care activities with dignity and respect, such as medication prompting, personal care, and meal preparation.
- Promote client independence and support decision-making where possible.
- Engage with clients throughout the shift, tailoring conversations appropriately to their communication ability within a professional context.
- Ensure punctuality and communicate promptly with the office if unable to attend or late; direct contact with clients outside scheduled shifts is prohibited.
Qualifications and Training
- Possess QQI Level 5 Health Care Award or an equivalent qualification.
- Completion of mandatory trainings including Children's First, Safeguarding, Dementia Care, GDPR compliance, Infection Prevention and Control, Hand Hygiene, and PPE handling through HSE LAND and AMRIC platforms.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Skills in basic patient care including bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Ability to assist with client mobility and exercise routines.
- Strong verbal and written communication coupled with active listening abilities.
- Reliability in following instructions and care protocols.
- Capacity to provide companionship and emotional support to clients.
- Competence with common healthcare equipment and devices.
- Effective time management and prioritization of tasks.
- Attributes including empathy, compassion, adaptability, teamwork, attention to detail, physical endurance, professionalism, confidentiality, and problem-solving.
Experience
Prior practical experience is not mandatory if the candidate holds a QQI Level 5 qualification.
