Job description
Role summary
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is seeking enthusiastic and approachable Healthcare Assistants to join the Outpatients Department. This position suits someone who enjoys a fast-moving team environment, communicates clearly, and is committed to supporting patients throughout their outpatient journey.
You will provide both clinical and administrative assistance to the wider clinical team, helping patients move through consultations and any required diagnostic processes. Where appropriate, you will also share information with patients under the direction of the team.
The role requires you to manage your own caseload of patients while working under the supervision of a registered nurse. Shortlisted candidates should be prepared to attend an in-person interview.
Main duties
- Support registered nurses in delivering safe, compassionate care.
- Assist patients with day-to-day needs such as washing, eating, drinking, and moving around safely.
- Measure and record basic observations, then escalate any concerns to a nurse.
- Keep the clinical area clean, orderly, and organised.
- Carry out simple administrative duties as required.
- Work flexibly across different wards when needed.
- Follow all relevant training, policies, and safety procedures.
- Show kindness, respect, and consideration for each patient’s individual needs.
Values and patient care approach
The trust places compassionate care at the centre of its work. Every team member, whether clinical or non-clinical, is expected to treat patients, families, and colleagues with dignity, empathy, and respect.
Communication is a core part of safe care. Staff are expected to listen carefully, explain clearly and kindly, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding. By joining the team, you are expected to help ensure every patient feels heard, valued, and respected in every interaction.
