Job description
About the company
Kepak is an international food business supplying major retailers and food service brands with premium meat products, modern food concepts, and convenience foods ready for market. The Kepak St. Merryn site in Merthyr Tydfil combines beef and lamb processing with packing operations. Its product range includes retail-ready cuts for butcher counters as well as branded packaged meat, produced from locally sourced livestock with a strong focus on quality control and product integrity.
Role overview
The business is looking for a proactive and committed Health & Safety Coordinator to join the on-site team. This is a permanent, full-time position for someone with relevant experience and a genuine interest in health and safety. The role is based at the Merthyr Tydfil site and follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Main purpose of the role
In this position, you will support the coordination, administration, and delivery of a range of health and safety systems and projects across the site. You will help maintain compliant processes, strengthen site-wide safety practices, and support the wider H&S function in improving standards and reducing risk.
Key duties
- Offer technical and administrative help for the coordination, upkeep, and management of health and safety projects.
- Support the continued improvement and rollout of site health and safety policies, systems, and procedures.
- Help ensure that safety practices are properly followed and embedded across the site.
- Work alongside and support the site risk management and safety teams.
- Train site colleagues to use department software, including risk management tools and spreadsheet-based systems, so they can carry out their duties effectively.
- Assist the Site Health & Safety Manager in completing and reviewing risk assessments for site operations.
- Support accident, incident, and near-miss reporting and investigations, including the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Collect supporting evidence such as documents and photographs for investigations.
- Help update and upload accident investigation reports.
- Analyse site data to support benchmarking, internal audits, and recommendations for improvement in higher-risk areas.
- Prepare presentations and reports for site meetings and safety team discussions.
- Support the development of site health and safety strategic plans when needed.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant will already have experience in health and safety, preferably gained in food production or manufacturing. A NEBOSH General Certificate in Safety and Health would be helpful, although the company can support this qualification if required. You should be confident building positive working relationships across departments and levels, with strong influencing skills and a willingness to go beyond the basics to get the job done.
Working style and skills
This role suits someone who communicates clearly in both writing and speech, including when working with multinational teams at different levels. You should be organised, energetic, self-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities while working independently to deadlines. A continuous-improvement mindset and the confidence to question existing practices are important. Strong IT ability is also needed, especially with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar software.
