Job Overview

WSP Middle East is seeking a skilled Health and Safety Officer to ensure that Health & Safety policies and procedures are firmly integrated across projects, sites, and office environments. The role requires compliance with both local and international regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee health, safety, and environmental protocols for projects in line with WSP and client HSEQ Management System standards to safeguard personnel.
  • Supervise HSE Inspectors to confirm active monitoring and enforcement of health and safety measures at project sites, adhering to legal and client mandates.
  • Develop and facilitate health, safety, and environmental training programs for employees including induction and safe working practices.
  • Evaluate and approve contractors' health, safety, and environmental plans, risk assessments, and method statements to meet relevant legal and client requirements before work commencement.
  • Conduct routine daily morning visits to project sites to verify that all health and safety precautions are established before work starts.
  • Perform joint weekly HSE inspections alongside HSE Inspectors and contractor personnel, ensuring timely completion of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Arrange HSE meetings involving clients, WSP project staff, and contractors; initiate and test emergency response plans with drills following project timelines and performance criteria.
  • Ensure diligent follow-up by HSE Inspectors on contractor incident investigations, securing corrective actions to prevent recurrence while offering technical guidance on accident prevention.
  • Regularly review site safety, liaise with enforcement authorities (PCFC, EHS Checks), and prepare monthly HSE reports with contractor collaboration for client submission.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong communication skills with the capability to influence stakeholders effectively.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Possession of relevant Health and Safety certification, with NEBOSH IGC as a minimum qualification.
  • At least 7 years of experience managing health and safety on major construction projects.
