Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced legal counsel based in Singapore to join Netflix's legal team. This position will focus on managing business-to-business commercial agreements relevant to Netflix's expansion in advertising, consumer products, and marketing/brand partnerships within Southeast Asia (SEA). The role reports locally and works closely with regional and global teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of drafting, negotiating, and executing B2B commercial contracts supporting Netflix's growth initiatives in SEA, including those related to consumer products and marketing partnerships.
- Deliver expert legal support for Netflix's advertising operations in SEA by drafting and negotiating agreements with advertising agencies, advertisers, measurement partners, and other third-party service providers.
- Act as a primary legal advisor to the advertising, consumer products, and marketing/brand partnerships teams, offering business-focused guidance regarding deal structures, risk management, intellectual property rights, approvals, sponsorship frameworks, and new advertisement products.
- Provide clear and actionable advice on SEA advertising regulations, covering consumer protection, labeling requirements, promotional rules, and industry norms, translating these legal standards into practical business strategies.
- Advise on usage rights, restrictions, and necessary approvals connected to Netflix’s intellectual property assets such as trademarks, logos, content segments, talent likenesses, and brand elements in commercial and marketing initiatives.
- Collaborate with Netflix’s global and regional legal departments to align local agreements with overarching company policies and templates, ensuring appropriate localization for SEA markets.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements of contracting processes, templates, and legal playbooks to facilitate efficient and timely deal execution in a dynamic environment.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum of seven years’ relevant legal experience in-house or with a prominent law firm, with substantial hands-on involvement in advertising, intellectual property licensing, and brand/marketing partnership agreements, ideally in media, entertainment, technology, or consumer sectors.
- Strong proficiency in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex B2B commercial contracts involving advertising, sponsorships, marketing, consumer products, and strategic collaborations.
- Bar membership in good standing for at least one jurisdiction.
- Comprehensive knowledge of SEA advertising laws and industry standards, capable of delivering compliance advice that is both practical and supportive of business initiatives.
- In-depth understanding of intellectual property rights, including trademarks and copyrights, with experience guiding brand-related rights and restrictions in marketing contexts.
- Excellent legal judgment and analytical capabilities to assess risks, offer balanced solutions, and align legal considerations with business goals.
- Proven ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently within fast-paced settings, maintaining precision and meeting strict deadlines.
- Comfortable navigating global contract templates and policies while tailoring legal advice suitably for SEA markets.
- Intellectual curiosity and readiness to engage with new or evolving areas such as emerging advertising products, technologies, and business models.
- Commitment to professional ethics, integrity, discretion, and alignment with Netflix’s corporate culture and values.
