About the Role
CancerCare Manitoba is a provincial organization dedicated to providing clinical and academic leadership for cancer control and treatment of blood disorders. Driven by the mission of a cancer-free world, the organization fosters employee growth and well-being. The Health Educator position is situated within the Prevention and Screening department, based in Winnipeg at 5-25 Sherbrook St. This is a temporary, full-time role approximating a 1.0 full-time equivalent with a 7.75-hour modified day shift. The anticipated employment period is immediate start through August 13, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Education and Prevention Lead, the role focuses on enhancing cancer prevention and screening awareness and participation across Manitoba. Responsibilities encompass creating, executing, and assessing health education and promotion initiatives, which may be province-wide or specially targeted to select communities. The strategies are designed to meet both the integrated requirements of population-based screening programs as well as general cancer prevention knowledge among healthcare providers and the public.
The Health Educator will design educational materials for public and professional audiences, implement communication strategies, facilitate engagement sessions, collaborate with healthcare professionals and community organizations, manage projects linked to education priorities, and keep abreast of emerging research and trends in health education.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must hold a post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline such as health, public health education, healthcare, adult education, or communications/public relations.
Required experience includes:
- At least three years in health promotion, education, or related activities within healthcare or public health settings.
- Minimum two years creating, implementing, and evaluating education programs for healthcare professionals and public audiences.
- At least three years of experience engaging with the public, communities, or patients.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, capable of delivering messages professionally and engagingly across diverse audiences.
- Proven project management skills involving multidisciplinary teams.
- Self-driven with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines independently.
- Working knowledge of desktop publishing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) and MS Office applications.
- Capacity to foster inclusive and equitable professional relationships.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in strategic planning aimed at enhancing recruitment and retention.
- Familiarity with cancer screening, prevention, public health principles, and community mobilization.
- Understanding of equity-deserving health challenges and partnerships with groups such as First Nations, Métis, Inuit peoples, newcomers, and LGBTQ+ communities.
- Experience in public speaking and presentations.
- Ability to communicate in French or Indigenous languages.
Additional Assets
- Knowledge of web-based design software (e.g., Canva, Piktochart, GoAnimate).
- Experience managing websites and social media.
- Proven capability in public awareness campaign development and budget management.
- Understanding of healthcare access barriers within Manitoba communities.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work on-call, including weekends and evenings as needed.
- Must have a satisfactory employment record and legal authorization to work in Canada.
- This role requires the successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check at the candidate’s expense.
Salary
Salary is structured across scales starting at $36.951 and progressing through $38.319, $39.692, $41.185, $42.896, $44.558, and up to $46.295.
