Job description

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN), reporting to the Manager of Health Services, is entrusted with delivering professional nursing care to patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health conditions. This role encompasses independent nursing practice, administering prescribed treatments, leading the healthcare team, and coordinating patient care & discharge. Commitment to the regional vision, values, and objectives is essential.

  • Department: JL3 Pediatric ICU
  • Employment: Full-time, onsite
  • Schedule: Day, night, and weekend shifts with 12-hour daily shifts
  • Annual Base Hours: 2015
  • Term: Maternity leave coverage (08/13/2026 - 02/10/2028)
  • FTE: 1.00

Compensation Enhancement

Eligible nurses may receive an additional $5.95/hour pensionable salary enhancement when working full-time hours during a designated six-month period (April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2027).

Experience and Education

  • Preferably minimum two years’ recent acute nursing experience, with pediatric experience favored
  • Graduate from an accredited Registered Nursing program is required
  • Completion of a post-basic ICU course is preferred

Certifications and Licenses

  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) mandatory
  • CPR certification at the Health Care Provider level required
  • Active membership in professional nursing associations (e.g., ARNM) preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with CRNM Standards of Practice and CNA Code of Ethics
  • Understanding of the Regulated Health Professions Act scope of practice
  • Knowledge of regional/facility policies and clinical nursing care
  • Awareness of relevant legislation including PHIA, Mental Health Act, and WHMIS
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous demands effectively
  • Competence in medication calculation as per Children’s Hospital policy
  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Windows, word processing, and databases
  • Preference for candidates fluent in Indigenous languages or knowledgeable in Indigenous customs and values

Physical and Additional Requirements

  • Capacity to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks
  • Must pass criminal records check including vulnerable sector and abuse registries (Child and Adult)
  • Security checks must be current (no older than six months)
  • Candidates cannot hold multiple Shared Health positions totaling over 1.0 FTE
