Health Care Assistant

Position Overview

This full-time Health Care Assistant role is based at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and sits within the clinical stream. Reporting through the Manager of Health Services and working under the guidance of an RN, RPN, and/or LPN, the successful candidate will support patient care by delivering basic, delegated, and supportive care as part of the care team.

Work Schedule and Compensation

The role is 1.00 FTE with in-person attendance. Scheduled shifts may include days, evenings, and weekends. Daily hours are 7.75, with annual base hours of 2015. The posted salary range is $23.187 to $26.800 per hour.

Key Duties

• Contribute to ongoing, high-quality patient care in a clinical setting.
• Follow safety standards, health regulations, and safe work practices at all times.
• Work within the philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies of the hospital and nursing services.
• Carry out delegated patient-care tasks under the direction of nursing staff.
• Keep equipment clean and support a safe, orderly environment.
• Use practical problem-solving methods in day-to-day duties.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, colleagues, and other departments.
• Participate actively as a helpful member of the health care team.
• Respond to emergency codes when required.

Education and Experience

No prior experience is required for this role. Applicants should have completed Grade XII or an equivalent level of schooling. Candidates must either have finished a recognized Health Care Assistant program or be currently enrolled in a university nursing program and have completed second year.

Certifications and Checks

CPR training must meet employer policy requirements. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support is required for roles in Emergency, Intensive Care, and Central Relief Team. Employment is conditional on a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, along with Child Abuse Registry and Adult Abuse Registry checks. The applicant is responsible for any related fees. A security check is considered current only if completed within six months before the start date.

Additional Requirements and Notes

Candidates should be able to use proper body mechanics and transfer techniques, communicate effectively in English, and complete the role on a regular basis. Applicants may be asked to complete a skills assessment during the interview process. Employees may not hold two or more positions within the WRHA legal entity if the combined appointment exceeds 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
