Position Summary

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Medicine unit at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Under the supervision of the Manager Health Services, the nurse will deliver professional nursing care to patients, including those with complex and unpredictable conditions. The role involves independent nursing responsibilities, administering prescribed medical treatments, providing leadership within the healthcare team, and coordinating patient care and discharge plans while upholding the organization's core values and objectives.

Work Details

  • Location: Health Sciences Centre - 735 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Work Arrangement: Onsite
  • Anticipated FTE: 0.70
  • Shift Schedule: Day, Night, and Weekend shifts
  • Daily Hours: Approximately 11.63 hours per shift
  • Annual Base Hours: 2015
  • Contract Term: Indefinite, starting ASAP, may end with 24-hour notice upon incumbent’s return

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) is mandatory and must be maintained
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification as per employer's policy
  • Recent relevant nursing experience is considered an asset
  • Preferred participation in professional nursing associations such as the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics
  • Understanding of the Scope of Practice as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)
  • Knowledge of regional, facility, and unit policies, protocols, and guidelines
  • Nursing care expertise relevant to the clinical area
  • Compliance with legislation such as PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, WHMIS, and Universal Precautions
  • Awareness of healthcare team roles and delegation principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving aptitude
  • Skill in prioritizing care for individual or groups of patients
  • Capacity to handle multiple demands simultaneously and adapt quickly to changing conditions
  • Resilience and composure in demanding, stressful environments
  • Preference given to candidates proficient in an Indigenous language or knowledgeable in Indigenous customs and values

Physical Requirements

This role demands moderate to heavy physical effort.

  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check are required. Candidates bear any associated costs. Checks must be obtained within six months prior to employment start.
