Health Care Assistant (HCA)

About the Role

Senior Helpers Kelowna is seeking caring, dependable, and committed Health Care Assistants to support seniors and others who need help with everyday living. This role is ideal both for recent graduates starting out and for experienced caregivers who want a supportive workplace where their contribution is valued.

The position focuses on delivering respectful, person-centered in-home care that helps clients preserve dignity, comfort, independence, and quality of life while building genuine relationships with them and their families.

What You’ll Do

• Provide hands-on personal care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and hygiene support.
• Assist with movement, transfers, and other mobility-related needs safely.
• Help with meal preparation and support clients while eating and drinking.
• Carry out light household tasks, including laundry and basic housekeeping.
• Offer medication reminders and supervised medication assistance when needed.
• Observe clients for changes in condition and report concerns appropriately.
• Provide companionship, social interaction, and emotional encouragement.
• Support each client in staying independent for as long as possible.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful care environment.

What the Team Is Looking For

The ideal caregiver is kind, patient, reliable, and able to communicate well. You should be comfortable working on your own as well as alongside a team, and genuinely motivated by helping seniors live with dignity and independence.

Requirements

• Active registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
• Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant training program.
• Prior caregiving or healthcare experience is preferred.
• A negative TB test completed within the last 90 days.
• A Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last 90 days.
• CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
• Reliable transportation.
• Availability for a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional languages are considered an advantage.

Schedule

• Day shifts.
