Overview
This position serves a client of Weekday AI, based in Malta, with possible involvement across Sicily, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, and Albania. The role is full-time and requires over 5 years of experience in risk management within financial or related sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the Risk Management Framework by instituting risk policies and procedures to reduce company exposure.
- Propose annual revisions to the Risk Appetite Statement, advising the Board on risk tolerance levels aligned with strategic objectives.
- Maintain a comprehensive risk register to log identified risks and corresponding mitigation strategies.
- Identify, evaluate, quantify, and mitigate risks across various domains including integrity (AML/CFT, fraud), ICT, operational, market, credit, legal, compliance, conflicts of interest, and other crypto-asset related risks at business line and entity-wide levels, including outsourcing.
- Perform ongoing risk assessments to ensure effective management.
- Lead credit and counterparty risk management by creating, implementing, and monitoring credit risk policies and exposure.
- Adopt risk measurement techniques, set risk appetite thresholds, and develop tools for continuous risk monitoring.
- Ensure all risk management activities comply with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to track, analyze, and report risk exposures and performance metrics; coordinate with business units to improve controls and facilitate new product rollout.
- Lead regional efforts for incident response and crisis management.
- Devise targeted actions to diminish or control risk exposure.
- Establish systems for ongoing monitoring and periodic management reporting of risk management activities.
- Conduct annual evaluations of the risk management framework's effectiveness, relevance, and adequacy in addressing emerging risks.
- Keep abreast of industry developments and emerging risks to continuously update risk strategies.
- Support preparation of reports for the Board, senior management, auditors, and regulators.
- Respond to requests from regulatory bodies and auditors, providing necessary inputs during thematic reviews.
- Participate in relevant meetings as required.
- Note: The Head of Risk must complete the MFSA PQ process.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience or familiarity with crypto, investment, or banking operations is advantageous.
- Possession of relevant qualifications in financial services or compliance is mandatory.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, critical judgment, and analytical capabilities are essential.
- Strong follow-up skills and the ability to communicate clearly and promptly are required.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team, with a keen interest in digital assets and blockchain technologies.
- Demonstrated eagerness for continuous learning and exploring innovations in technology and compliance.
