Role overview

The Personalised Prevention Services (PPS) portfolio brings together digital tools and services designed to help people look after their health, make better-informed choices, and access the right support sooner. The teams in PPS are creating straightforward, connected services that help people understand their health risks, find appropriate support, and take action in ways that fit around their everyday lives.

The purpose of this work is to reimagine prevention so that it is easier to access, more personal, and available to everyone.

As Head of Product, you will be central to turning that ambition into reality. You will shape and lead the strategy, design and delivery of products that support people to stay healthier for longer, reduce health inequalities, and improve the long-term sustainability of the NHS.

You will collaborate closely with clinical, policy, operational and digital colleagues to ensure products are clinically led, easy to use, genuinely helpful, and built around user needs.

Key accountabilities

• Work with the PPS Senior Leadership Team to translate the personalised prevention vision into delivery, helping people—especially those with the greatest need—find support, maintain healthier behaviours, and get help earlier. This includes maintaining high quality across core product artefacts such as the roadmap and OKRs.
• Provide leadership for the product profession by building and supporting a strong community of practice for product managers across PPS.
• Shape strong products that are compelling for patients and healthcare staff, with product direction aligned to the NHS Service Standard.
• Lead and develop high-performing multidisciplinary rainbow teams, working with the Head of Delivery and PPS SLT and bringing together colleagues from your organisation, partners and suppliers in an environment where people can do their best work.
• Connect services across teams and systems by working with clinicians, policy colleagues, ICBs and partners so solutions align with real-world pathways and local systems, while encouraging openness and collaboration.
• Use evidence, analytics and user insight to understand impact, improve services and target support where it can do the most good.
• Encourage innovation and remain inquisitive, testing new ideas in areas such as digital health assessments, personalised support and behaviour change.

If you already work in the NHS and are successful at interview, an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) will be started through the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This process transfers key details from your current or former NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD) and annual leave entitlement. You may choose to opt out at any point.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to work from the office for at least 40% of their time on average.

Applicants joining from outside the NHS are generally appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
