Job description
Role Overview
The Head of Industrial Sector will take ownership of creating, shaping, and steering the Group’s industrial portfolio, with the first priority centered on steel and copper manufacturing. This is a senior leadership position responsible for taking greenfield manufacturing initiatives from early-stage opportunity screening and feasibility work all the way through engineering, construction, commissioning, operational ramp-up, and business expansion.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned industrial leader who has successfully built heavy manufacturing operations from the ground up and converted them into strong, profitable enterprises.
Strategic Leadership
- Set the industrial sector direction and translate corporate goals into an executable growth plan.
- Spot new investment opportunities in Qatar as well as overseas markets.
- Guide long-term planning and expansion across the industrial portfolio.
- Prepare and present business cases and investment proposals to the Board and executive leadership.
- Support sustainable revenue growth and improved profitability across all industrial businesses.
Industrial Business Development
- Explore opportunities across steel, copper, aluminum, metal fabrication, industrial manufacturing, and related areas.
- Carry out in-depth market studies and competitor reviews.
- Shape expansion strategies and investment roadmaps.
- Create strategic collaborations with international manufacturers, technology partners, and investors.
- Lead mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic partnership structures as needed.
Greenfield Factory Development
Oversee the complete setup of new manufacturing facilities, including market and technical feasibility, financial modeling, investment analysis, factory master planning, process selection, technology assessment, equipment sourcing, line design, plant layout, utilities, capacity planning, automation, smart manufacturing, commissioning, production launch, and scale-up to full commercial operations.
Engineering and Project Management
Provide executive supervision for EPC contractors, engineering consultants, civil and mechanical works, electrical systems, infrastructure buildout, utilities installation, equipment fit-out, commissioning, timelines, budgets, and project risk control.
Manufacturing Operations
- Shape production planning and factory performance systems.
- Drive manufacturing excellence, Lean initiatives, continuous improvement, and TPM.
- Strengthen operational excellence and quality management practices.
- Oversee maintenance planning, warehouse operations, inventory control, and supply chain efficiency.
- Track production KPIs and push productivity gains while lowering manufacturing costs.
Financial Management
- Manage CAPEX planning, operating budgets, and cost optimization efforts.
- Evaluate investments and develop financial forecasts.
- Improve profitability, EBITDA, ROI, and working capital performance.
- Review financial results across the industrial businesses and act on performance gaps.
Commercial and Supply Chain Leadership
- Build sourcing strategies for raw materials.
- Negotiate supplier agreements and partnerships.
- Maintain productive relationships with local and global suppliers.
- Work with commercial teams to support market growth.
- Improve procurement and logistics processes to keep production running without interruption.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure adherence to Qatar industrial regulations, environmental laws, occupational health and safety standards, ISO requirements, industrial licensing rules, Civil Defense requirements, ministry approvals, and applicable international manufacturing standards.
Digital Transformation
- Lead deployment of ERP, MES, and Industry 4.0 solutions.
- Advance industrial automation, predictive maintenance tools, production analytics, and smart factory programs.
Leadership and Organizational Development
- Design the Industrial Sector organization structure.
- Recruit and develop senior leadership and executive teams.
- Build high-performing engineering and manufacturing organizations.
- Create succession plans and strengthen leadership depth.
- Promote a culture built on accountability, innovation, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Coach Plant Managers and senior engineering leaders.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar field is required. An MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering Management is strongly preferred.
Experience: At least 20 years of industrial manufacturing experience is required, including a minimum of 10 years in executive leadership. The role calls for proven success in building multiple greenfield manufacturing facilities from concept through commercial operations. Experience leading industrial businesses with revenue above USD 100 million is preferred, and GCC exposure is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge is expected in steel and copper manufacturing, metal processing, industrial engineering, factory design, EPC project leadership, heavy manufacturing, automation, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, ISO 9001, quality systems, supply chain management, ERP implementation such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics, and CAPEX management.
