Job description

Role overview

Diabetes Australia is looking for a senior strategy leader to build and strengthen an organisation-wide strategy approach that turns ambition into delivery. The position calls for someone who can combine disciplined thinking, sound judgement, and practical execution to ensure strategic efforts are coordinated, measurable, and effective.

As Head of Enterprise Strategy, you will own the design, quality, and ongoing refinement of the enterprise strategy operating model. In partnership with the Group CEO, Chief of Innovation & Impact, and the Executive Leadership Team, you will put in place the frameworks, processes, and governance needed to ensure priorities are clearly set, consistently understood, and translated into action.

This is a high-impact leadership role that influences how the organisation decides, invests, plans, and tracks performance.

Location and working arrangement

The role can be based in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, or Melbourne. It is a permanent, full-time position. The organisation supports a hybrid working model, with 2 to 3 days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

  • Shape and run the enterprise strategy process, from gathering external insights and forming strategic ideas through to selecting priorities.
  • Create one integrated planning framework so organisational priorities are connected and duplicated planning approaches are removed.
  • Build and embed a clear performance framework for strategy, including enterprise-wide measures of success.
  • Set up governance arrangements, decision-making structures, and prioritisation methods that keep the organisation focused on the right outcomes.
  • Work with Finance to align strategic priorities with funding choices and resource allocation.
  • Bring senior stakeholders together and build alignment across a complex, cross-functional environment through influence and collaboration.

Measures of success

  • Strategic priorities are clearly stated, applied consistently, and understood across the organisation.
  • Planning and resource allocation directly support the agreed strategic objectives.
  • Decision-making follows defined frameworks, with trade-offs handled openly and transparently.
  • Performance is tracked through reliable indicators that support executive and Board-level discussions.
  • Leaders show a common view of both direction and execution.

Candidate profile

  • Significant experience developing and implementing strategy in complex organisations.
  • Proven ability to turn strategic intent into structured, practical priorities and plans.
  • Experience creating governance, decision rights, and prioritisation models across multiple functions.
  • Strong executive stakeholder management and influencing capability.
  • Commercial and financial awareness, including contribution to investment decisions.

Additional information

Experience in health, public policy, or purpose-driven organisations would be an advantage, but it is not mandatory.

This role offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to reducing the incidence and impact of diabetes in Australia, while also shaping how strategy is developed, governed, and delivered across the organisation.

Why join Diabetes Australia

  • Make a real difference by supporting national efforts to reduce the incidence and impact of diabetes.
  • Influence enterprise-wide strategy and the way it is executed across the organisation.
  • Work closely with executive leaders on priority setting and decision-making.
  • Contribute to complex, purpose-led work in a multi-stakeholder environment where alignment matters.
  • Enjoy flexible working with a hybrid model and office attendance of 2 to 3 days per week.
