About the school

The school is based in Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia, directly opposite the Logan City Council offices and the Logan Entertainment Centre. It sits between Woodridge State Primary School and Woodridge State Secondary School, forming part of a local educational corridor. The campus is easy to reach by train, with Woodridge Station nearby, and also by bus.

The school first opened in 1972 as Woodridge Opportunity School. It later became Woodridge Special School and was renamed Logan City Special School in 1997 to reflect that its students come from across Logan City, not only the Woodridge area.

Role overview

The Head of Department (Curriculum) will provide leadership for curriculum design and implementation, support whole-school improvement, and help create a culture where high expectations and inclusion are central to student learning.

Key responsibilities

• Set a clear direction for the curriculum area or whole-school program by shaping and delivering a shared vision that lifts teaching quality, learning outcomes, and student achievement.
• Promote inclusive, fair, and socially responsible practice while maintaining high expectations, strengthening staff performance, and ensuring positive learning settings for all students.
• Manage people, budgets, curriculum materials, and facilities efficiently so that educational programs run effectively and school priorities are achieved.
• Work closely with students, families, community groups, and government agencies to improve engagement, widen learning opportunities, and support student success.
• Show strong instructional and professional leadership through ongoing learning, compliance with legislation and policy, and future-focused innovation and continuous improvement.
