Role Overview
Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Head of Creative is a senior leadership role within the Banana Republic Marketing Leadership Team and is responsible for leading the internal creative function. This leader owns the full creative direction for Banana Republic and Banana Republic Factory across art direction, copy, design, and experiential work, while partnering closely with Marketing, Product, Visual Merchandising, and outside agencies.
The position is accountable for strengthening brand relevance, sharpening brand codes, and building brand excitement across every customer touchpoint. It calls for creative work that is emotionally engaging, strategically aligned, and designed to drive business results. The role also requires building and motivating a strong, diverse team and fostering a culture centered on creativity, collaboration, and accountability.
Compensation: The stated salary range for this role is USD 320,000 to USD 350,000. Pay may vary depending on qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies, and work location. The employer will comply with minimum wage or the minimum of the pay range, whichever is higher, based on applicable city, county, and state requirements.
What You'll Do
- Shape and continuously improve the creative direction so it authentically connects with the customer.
- Develop ideas and campaigns that reflect Banana Republic’s purpose and brand position across retail, digital, social, packaging, and experiential channels.
- Protect and express the brand voice consistently, ensuring every output feels emotionally resonant and clearly on-brand.
- Guide the creative vision for brand events and experiences, balancing consistency with fresh thinking.
- Use consumer and cultural insights to guide creative choices that increase engagement and deepen brand affinity.
- Set and execute a connected creative vision that supports the company’s long-term strategy and marketing priorities.
- Foster a high-performing creative environment built on inclusivity, innovation, and accountability.
- Work closely with Brand Marketing, Product, and Visual Merchandising to ensure creative work supports commercial objectives and strengthens differentiation.
- Evaluate and partner with external agencies to deliver integrated campaigns that protect brand integrity and inspire customer action.
- Lead, develop, and motivate a diverse creative team through coaching, empowerment, and continuous growth.
- Create a performance-oriented team culture with clear goals, priorities, and expectations.
- Hire and retain outstanding creative talent with an emphasis on curiosity, development, and collaboration.
- Promote strong cross-functional alignment so creative output matches broader marketing and brand storytelling goals.
- Recognize and celebrate the achievements of creative teams that bring the brand mission and values to life.
- Partner with creative operations and production teams to build efficient workflows that support high-quality execution.
- Drive creative innovation by exploring emerging trends, cultural signals, and new formats that keep the brand current while preserving timeless style and quality.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of creative output and refine it to improve brand and business results.
- Maintain consistency across retail, digital, social, packaging, and event channels to deliver a unified brand experience.
Who You Are
You are a seasoned creative leader with deep experience shaping brands in apparel, lifestyle, or agency settings. You combine strategic thinking with emotionally compelling storytelling and know how to grow teams, influence partners, and deliver polished work across channels.
Requirements
- More than 12 years of progressive experience in creative direction, ideally within apparel, lifestyle, or agency environments.
- Demonstrated ability to evolve a brand through emotionally compelling, purpose-led creative that builds brand excitement.
- Experience mentoring, developing, and leading diverse, high-performing creative teams.
- Strong ability to establish trust and alignment with internal stakeholders and external agency partners.
- Experience building brands.
- Advanced knowledge of design, photography, digital best practices, and omnichannel marketing.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, G-Suite, Figma, Keynote, and similar tools.
- Comfort working through ambiguity, challenging established norms, and adapting creatively over time.
