About the Role

The Head of Media Institute Operations will spearhead the coordination and management of AJMI's operational segment within Network Operations. This role plays a critical role in overseeing the technical, facility, and operational support essential for delivering training programs, workshops, conferences, events, and media development initiatives by Al Jazeera Media Institute.

Reporting directly to the Director of Network Operations, this position demands strategic leadership to ensure seamless planning, execution, and continuous enhancement of services related to facilities management, technical support, and operational resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the daily operations of AJMI’s diverse training facilities including studios, control rooms, editing suites, classrooms, theaters, and other learning spaces.
  • Assure readiness and optimal functionality of technical systems, production setups, audiovisual equipment, and event infrastructure.
  • Coordinate comprehensive operational and technical assistance for media training activities ranging from workshops, practical sessions, simulations to hands-on exercises.
  • Facilitate the delivery of diverse training modules such as television production, directing, journalism, camera work, lighting, sound, editing, and digital media disciplines.
  • Manage support for conferences, seminars, forums, media summits, and other special events hosted by AJMI.
  • Oversee the scheduling of facility bookings, resource allocation, and utilization plans to maximize operational effectiveness.
  • Provide technical assistance for live demonstrations, remote learning sessions, and media development programs.
  • Ensure theaters, video walls, presentation tools, production gear, and training technologies remain fully functional and prepared.
  • Liaise with Engineering and Technology departments to coordinate maintenance, upgrades, lifecycle management, fault resolution, and overall technical support.
  • Maintain accurate records documenting operational processes, equipment inventory, assets, and utilization analytics.
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, quality of support, resource use, and facility management.
  • Generate and present operational performance and service reports to senior management.

Additional Duties

  • Contribute to strategic growth plans and expansion of AJMI facilities and capabilities.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of large-scale events, conferences, and significant projects.
  • Engage with technology assessment and operational enhancement efforts.
  • Support budget preparation, procurement procedures, and resource management planning.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Media, Communications, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Data Analytics or a closely related discipline is required; postgraduate qualifications are favorable.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional exposure in broadcast operations, media production support, management of training facilities, technical operations, or event coordination.
  • A minimum of 3 years of documented leadership or supervisory experience in related domains.
