About the Role
Al Jazeera Media Network is seeking an experienced Manager of Innovation & Compliance to lead the Network Operations’ Innovation & Compliance division. This position holds ultimate accountability for maintaining operational standards, driving innovation, and ensuring compliance across live broadcasting and pre/post-production functions. Reporting directly to the Director of Network Operations, the successful candidate will oversee the Heads of Innovation and Compliance & Standards, setting the vision and standards framework for the section.
Primary Responsibilities
- Direct and manage the Innovation & Compliance teams, including their leads, to uphold operational excellence, innovation, and consistent standards.
- Develop and implement the operational vision for studio and pre/post-production workflows, collaborating with editorial leadership across the Network.
- Create, approve, and enforce standard policies, procedures, and technical criteria for Studio Operations, pre/post-production, News gathering, and Media operations; ensure these are well documented and uniformly applied.
- Ensure operational activities comply with editorial standards, codes of conduct, safety mandates, and regulatory requirements; identify and correct any breaches.
- Provide expert leadership during projects, advising engineering and design teams early on to align outcomes with operational goals.
- Oversee changes in studio production, including new set designs, graphic packages, show launches, and workflow adjustments affecting production and post-production.
- Guarantee that the newsroom, edits, and studio technical outputs meet the editorial expectations of news and programming teams, ensuring required formats and aesthetics for each channel.
- Collaborate closely with Technology teams to confirm the reliability and monitoring of studio automation and the complete production chain.
- Lead workforce development within the section, identifying training needs, fostering competencies, planning succession, and producing operational documentation and guidelines.
- Promote problem-solving and robust communication between senior management and production teams.
- Investigate trends in the television broadcast sector and authorize innovative strategies and investments benefiting the Network.
- Manage the section’s contributions to business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Contribute to operational planning including budgeting and forecasting resource needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Represent the Innovation & Compliance functions in management reviews and operational meetings, presenting updates on standards, innovation, and compliance.
- Deliver expert advice regarding Media, Production, and Newsgathering operations.
- Conduct regular maturity assessments and benchmark operations against industry best practices.
- Collaborate with News and Planning teams on budgeting for new show initiatives.
- Stay informed about advancements in newsroom automation and emerging broadcast technologies.
- Perform other related duties as required by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Media, Communications, Engineering, or a related discipline; postgraduate degrees are preferred.
- Have at least 15 years of experience in a highly skilled live, on-air setting, with a minimum of 5 years in managerial roles overseeing standards or compliance.
