Job description

Role Overview

Join the Norfolk & Waveney University Hospitals Group (NWUHG) as the Group Director of Governance, a pivotal non-voting board-level position involved at the core of a major healthcare transformation. NWUHG unifies the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn, and The James Paget University Hospital under one leadership framework, with a shared mission to provide exemplary patient care across Norfolk & Waveney.

Key Responsibilities

As Group Director of Governance, you will act as a strategic advisor to the Group CEO, Chair, and Board, delivering expert guidance on corporate governance, regulatory adherence, patient experience, legal matters, and information governance. You will lead the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive corporate governance structure supporting sound decision-making and compliance throughout the Group.

This includes managing the Board Assurance Framework, coordinating governance reporting, and overseeing the Board secretariat function to ensure effective committee operations, annual planning, and implementation of board decisions. You will also provide assurance relating to strategic risk management and organizational performance.

Collaborating closely with executives, regulators, and external partners, you will champion the alignment with national governance standards and regulatory demands, helping drive innovation, transformation, and continuous improvements in service delivery.

Organizational Context

The role exists within a complex, multi-site healthcare setting serving over one million people, encompassing three distinct hospitals and cultures unified under one purpose and leadership strategy. This juncture offers a prime chance to influence governance practices and organizational development within a large, evolving university hospital system during significant structural change.

Additional Information

The appointment offers a salary competitive with NHSE Very Senior Manager pay scales, a comprehensive NHS pension plan, and the extensive benefits package available to NHS employees.
