Junior Clinical Fellow in Neonatal Intensive Care

Overview

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) is inviting applications for a Junior Clinical Fellow position within its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This full-time role spans an initial six-month period starting September 2026, with potential for extension and progression to Tier Two depending on experience.

Role Details

The successful candidate will integrate into a multidisciplinary team comprising Consultants, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPs), Clinical Fellows, Deanery Trainees, and Physician Associates. The NICU is one of three Regional Intensive Care Units in the Neonatal Operational Delivery Network covering the East of England.

Responsibilities include collaborating with other specialties to support both inpatient and outpatient neonatal care at NNUH. The position provides extensive opportunities to cultivate clinical skills and expertise tailored to service needs and the fellow's interests.

Duties involve participation in the Tier 1 rota, encompassing a rota of long day/night shifts of 12.5 hours and shorter day shifts. Clinical care is delivered across Intensive/High Dependency Care, Special and Transitional Care, and post-natal ward infant care. Responsibilities are shared with resident trainees (ST1-3) and ANNPs, under consultant supervision and guidance. Although not formally recognized for specialist training by the East of England Deanery, an educational supervisor will be assigned, granting access to departmental training programs.

Specific Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care for neonatal patients within the NICU Tier One service.
• Maintain accurate medical records, including documentation within Badger system.
• Communicate effectively with parents, multidisciplinary teams, and other stakeholders.
• Fulfill all duties expected of a resident doctor within the department.
