Role overview
Heartland Bank is seeking a curious, motivated graduate or early-career professional to join its Information Security team within the Digital Transformation business unit in Auckland. This position offers practical exposure across technology risk, cyber security, risk management and banking, while working with experienced colleagues in a modern digital setting.
In this role, you will contribute to identifying, evaluating and managing technology and cyber security risks that help keep essential banking services safe and resilient.

What we are looking for
The ideal person is likely a recent graduate or someone at the start of their career who enjoys analysing information, tackling problems and understanding how technology supports business results. Strong communication skills and exceptional attention to detail are essential.
Preferred qualifications
Applicants should hold one of the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Cybersecurity Engineering
- Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Information Systems
- Bachelor of Business in Information Systems
- Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Software Engineering or Computer Science
Additional study that would be viewed positively includes a Master of Cyber Security, a Master of Information Technology with a cyber security specialisation, or postgraduate study in cyber security, information security, technology governance or risk management.
Experience and knowledge that would help
- One to three years of professional exposure through work, internships, placements or graduate programmes
- Experience or familiarity with banking, financial services, cyber security, audit, risk or compliance environments
- Understanding of technology governance and risk management principles
- Ability to prepare reports, presentations or governance documents
Technical areas of interest
You do not need to be experienced in everything below, but exposure to some of these areas would be beneficial.
- Risk assessments, control design and effectiveness, third-party risk management, operational risk management and software supply chain risk
- Identity and access management, multi-factor authentication, privileged access management, vulnerability management and secure software development concepts
- Cloud computing, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows, Linux, enterprise networking and DevSecOps concepts
- Excel, Power BI, data analysis and risk reporting
Desirable certifications
- Entry-level security credentials
- ISC2 CC
- Security+
- ITIL Foundation v4 or later
- ISO 27001 Foundation
