Role Responsibilities
The General Maintenance Assistant will provide essential support in maintaining the hotel's high standards by assisting with the upkeep of guest areas, bedrooms, leisure facilities, restaurants, and back-of-house spaces. This diverse role is ideal for hands-on individuals who excel in problem-solving and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout the hotel premises.
- Conduct daily maintenance inspections and execute preventive maintenance tasks.
- Address maintenance requests from various departments promptly and effectively.
- Repair or replace fixtures, fittings, and equipment as necessary.
- Assist with decorating tasks such as painting and basic carpentry.
- Undertake minor plumbing and electrical repairs where competent.
- Ensure heating, lighting, and water systems operate efficiently.
- Maintain a professional, courteous attitude when interacting with guests.
- Complete all maintenance work minimizing disruption to guests.
- Support other departments during busy periods as operationally required.
- Supervise external contractors on-site ensuring compliance with hotel safety policies.
- Report any issues related to contractor work or safety concerns.
- Maintain hotel grounds, pathways, and car parks in pristine condition.
- Carry out seasonal maintenance activities for external areas.
- Adhere strictly to Health and Safety policies, reporting hazards or incidents immediately.
- Safely maintain and secure tools and equipment.
- Assist in fire safety checks and emergency procedures.
- Follow Manual Handling and Safe Pass guidelines as applicable.
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior experience in hotel maintenance, facilities management, or related handyman roles.
- Strong practical knowledge of general building maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
- Good problem-solving capabilities with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Desirable Attributes
- Manual Handling certification is advantageous.
- A full clean driving license is preferred.
- Trade qualifications or equivalent maintenance experience valued.
