Shared Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Thoracic/Vascular/PCU-S unit at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Working under the direction of the Manager, Health Services, this role provides professional nursing care to patients with complex and unpredictable health needs. The position includes delivering independent nursing care, carrying out prescribed treatments, taking a leadership role within the care team, and helping coordinate patient care and discharge planning. Responsibilities
- Provide direct professional nursing care to patients, including those with complicated and rapidly changing health needs.
- Carry out nursing interventions and administer prescribed treatments as ordered.
- Use independent judgment within the RN scope of practice.
- Contribute leadership within the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Support coordination of care and discharge planning for patients.
- Work in alignment with unit, facility, and regional policies, procedures, and standards.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved Registered Nursing education program is required.
- Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) must be maintained and verifiable.
- Surgical nursing experience is preferred.
- Completion of an ECG Monitoring and Rhythm Analysis course is required within 12 months of hire.
- Completion of a Progressive Care Unit course is required within 18 months of hire, or sooner if directed by the Manager of Health Services.
- CPR training must meet employer policy requirements.
- Applicants should be familiar with CRNM Standards of Practice, the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics, RHPA scope of practice, and relevant regional/facility/unit procedures.
- Knowledge of PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, WHMIS, routine practices, and other applicable legislation is expected.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, prioritization, adaptability, and the ability to work both independently and in a team are important.
- Ability to manage multiple demands, stay focused amid interruptions, and function effectively in a high-pressure environment is required.
- Computer literacy with Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases is required.
- Moderate to heavy physical effort is required.
- Preference may be given to candidates who are proficient in an Indigenous language and/or have knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
- A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check, is required as a condition of employment.
- The security screening must be current, meaning obtained within six months before the employment start date.

This role is part of a system that coordinates patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba, along with selected province-wide services and centralized administrative and business support functions.
