Role overview
This role involves performing as a mermaid in underwater shows, guest interactions, and themed events at The Lost World Aquarium.
Key duties
- Take part in underwater performances, meet-and-greets, and special events as a mermaid character.
- Move gracefully in a mermaid tail while carrying out planned routines or spontaneous performance movements.
- Join rehearsals, costume trials, and promotional activity when required.
- Keep up physical conditioning and maintain strong water-safety capability.
- Comply with safety instructions and emergency procedures issued by the team or Dive Safety Officer.
- Work in line with the Atlantis Dubai Dive Operations Manual and all applicable department policies.
- Look after mermaid costumes and equipment, including cleaning and basic maintenance.
- Report any equipment issue or malfunction to the supervisor right away.
- Maintain accurate dive logs and personal dive records.
- Follow all divisional and departmental policies and procedures in full.
- Help maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment for people and animals.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
- Build a sound understanding of company facilities and related services.
- Protect confidential information at all times.
- Carry out other reasonable tasks across the division as assigned by management.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant is a certified freediver with strong swimming ability and the stamina to perform underwater for extended periods. Prior background in aquatic performance, synchronized swimming, diving, or dance is preferred. Comfort performing before large audiences and interacting with both children and adults is important.
The role also requires the ability to work in different water temperatures, repeat movements for long periods, and stay in costume for extended durations. Candidates should be in excellent physical health, able to pass the annual dive medical, and willing to lift or carry costume parts or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. Experience swimming in a monofin or mermaid tail for long stretches is required, along with CPR, first aid, and lifeguard certification or a willingness to obtain them. The schedule is flexible and includes weekends, holidays, and evenings. Applicants must communicate clearly in written and spoken English, show a positive attitude, demonstrate strong work ethic, behave responsibly, and be comfortable working near animals in the collection.
