Role Overview
Gusto is looking for enthusiastic, customer-oriented sales professionals to join their Sales or Onboarding teams starting in 2026. These positions suit candidates seeking early-career opportunities within a fast-paced, consultative selling environment, with a passion for assisting small businesses to succeed.
Sales team members will manage the customer journey from initial interaction through successful onboarding, handling inbound communications via phone, chat, and email, and potentially conducting outbound outreach to prospects or existing clients. The role demands empathy, problem-solving skills, and an advisory selling approach to create a positive customer experience from the outset.
Daily Responsibilities
- Respond to a high volume of inbound customer and partner inquiries across various stages, from discovery through onboarding.
- Act as a trusted advisor by helping small business owners and accounting partners select appropriate Gusto solutions tailored to their needs.

- Maintain deep product knowledge and prioritize ethical, customer-first sales practices.
- Diligently record interactions and sales pipeline data in Salesforce to ensure accurate follow-up.
Candidate Profile
- Between one and three years of experience in sales or customer service roles.
- Comfortable in high-volume settings involving both inbound and outbound calling.
- Demonstrated ability to meet or surpass sales targets while fostering strong customer relationships.
- Driven by consultative, solution-focused selling and committed to aiding small business success.
- Familiarity with Salesforce or similar customer relationship management tools.
Compensation and Work Location
The roles cover multiple levels within the Sales team and offer estimated hourly wages between $20 and $28, with final pay determined by specific role, experience, and location. Gusto’s offices are located in Denver, San Francisco (including San Jose metro area), and New York City, where on-site presence is required roughly 2-3 days per week or more depending on the position. For employees authorized to work remotely, a reliable internet connection is mandatory on non-office days.
