Role overview
Alpine Group Partners is hiring a Finance Director to support the company’s senior leadership with day-to-day financial operations. This is a permanent, exempt full-time position based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office one day each week. The role reports to the Chief Executive Officer and calls for a highly organized professional who brings integrity, maturity, and a practical, solutions-oriented mindset. Occasional after-hours availability may be needed to address urgent administrative matters.
About the organization
Founded in 1996, the Alpine Group is a Washington, DC-based advocacy firm with a strong reputation in the capital. It is consistently ranked among the most effective lobbying firms and is recognized for bipartisan credibility with lawmakers, government officials, executives, and other influential stakeholders shaping policy. The firm’s team of 20+ professionals brings deep experience from senior roles inside and outside federal government. Its bipartisan and bicameral approach supports work across the full policy landscape, serving clients that include Fortune 500 companies, high-tech startups, federal contractors, trade associations, and state and local governments.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will act as the main financial connector between firm leadership and the holding company, coordinating closely with the CEO and attending monthly financial meetings. You will also work with Principals, the Chief of Staff, and other designated stakeholders on budgeting, invoicing, and contract-related matters.
You will review client agreements, extract the information needed by the Control & Accounting team, and help ensure contract compliance. This includes overseeing client contract workflows from initiation through implementation and renewal, as well as supporting employee agreements such as NDAs.
The position also involves supporting month-end and quarter-end close activities, reviewing accounting processes, and assisting with financial analysis. You will prepare leadership presentations on P&L and budget forecasts, translating complex financial information into clear, practical formats for decision-makers.
Additional duties include leading quarterly forecasting discussions with account staff and leadership, monitoring accounts receivable, working with account teams to improve collections, reviewing departmental spending, tracking budget use, and partnering with the holding company finance team to flag risks or opportunities in budget performance.
You will also serve as the administrative point person for firmwide personnel actions such as hiring, pay increases, promotions, and terminations, ensuring authorizations are completed according to the payroll schedule. The role requires maintaining organized financial records for invoices, receipts, and supporting documents to meet audit and compliance needs.
Other responsibilities include supporting bonus allocation work, helping communicate bonus and stock awards, coordinating equity award information and related tax considerations, verifying employee data and compensation goals with holding company HR, responding to auditor requests, and approving work-related expenses in Concur promptly. You may also be asked to handle additional duties that support team and firmwide objectives.
Required experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate brings 7 to 10+ years of experience in financial operations, accounting, or a related area. You should be able to command confidence with senior leaders, communicate clearly at an executive level, and represent leadership priorities effectively.
You must have advanced knowledge of finance and accounting standards and be comfortable converting detailed financial statements into concise leadership-ready presentations. Strong organizational ability, solid time management, and the flexibility to adapt to changing business needs are essential.
Success in this role also depends on your ability to retain institutional knowledge, apply financial insight to business metrics, and collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external partners. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, are required.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required. A CPA or another relevant certification is preferred.
Work environment and additional information
This role may require sitting, walking, standing, speaking in person or by phone, repetitive use of hands, reaching with arms and hands, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
