Opportunity Overview
Step into a substantial leadership role as Farm Manager at Pāmu's Parikanapa Station, a significant East Coast hill country farm located about 40 minutes from Gisborne, New Zealand. This farm covers 2,250 hectares of effective hill country and operates a breeding and finishing livestock enterprise, managing around 26,000 stock units, including 9,100 lambing ewes and 1,000 cows calving annually, along with finishing approximately 900 trade heifers each year.
Role Highlights
The role offers the autonomy to lead daily farm operations, make impactful decisions, and contribute to ongoing improvements in fencing, infrastructure, and farm systems. You will collaborate closely with an experienced Business Manager and have access to Pāmu's extensive expert teams in human resources, finance, communication, sustainability, and health and safety, ensuring comprehensive support.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates possess experience managing large-scale sheep and beef farms, particularly within hill country environments. Practical livestock management skills, especially working with stock on steep terrain using horses and dogs, are essential. Candidates should be effective leaders, adept at planning, coordinating contractors, and managing logistics and budgets. A commitment to animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and workplace safety is critical. Strong communication skills and familiarity with farm management systems and performance reporting tools are also important.
