Overview
NTU International is preparing a proposal for the European Union-funded project "Technical Assistance to the Energy Transition Support Program in Benin (ATE)", which aims to enhance access to electricity through sustainable and decentralized solutions, particularly rural and peri-urban mini electrical grids. The program supports the development of regulatory, technical, and financial frameworks encouraging mini-grid deployment and decentralized electrification.
NTU International is seeking a Senior Expert in Mini Electrical Grids to assist with the development, regulation, and implementation of mini-grid projects in Benin.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of mini-grid electrical projects;
- Provide technical assistance on hybrid systems, decentralized solar solutions, and local distribution infrastructure;
- Contribute to the creation of technical, regulatory, and operational frameworks applicable to mini-grids;
- Assist in feasibility studies, techno-economic analyses, and operation models for mini-grids;
- Advise public institutions on concession, tariff, and regulatory mechanisms for mini-grids;
- Support private sector participation initiatives in decentralized electrification;
- Help prepare investment dossiers and technical documents related to mini-grid projects;
- Engage in consultations with private operators, investors, and local stakeholders;
- Assist with training activities and capacity building for beneficiary institutions;
- Contribute to monitoring the performance and impacts of mini-grid projects.
Educational Requirements
Master's degree (BAC+5) in electrical engineering, energy, electrotechnics, renewable energies, or related fields.
Professional Experience
General:
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the energy or electrification sector;
- Proven experience with energy infrastructure or rural electrification projects;
- Experience working on programs funded by international donors such as the EU, World Bank, AfDB, AFD, or GIZ.
Specific:
- At least 7 years of experience in mini electrical grids or decentralized electrification;
- Proven expertise in hybrid solar solutions, local distribution systems, or off-grid infrastructures;
- Strong knowledge of economic and regulatory models related to mini-grids;
- Experience in technical studies, sizing, or oversight of energy projects is a significant asset;
- Experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially West Africa, is highly desirable;
- Experience working in Benin or the ECOWAS region is an advantage.
Languages
- Excellent proficiency in French (oral and written) at C1 level or higher;
- Good command of professional English is advantageous.
