Role Summary
The Environmental Technician II is tasked with performing essential cleaning and maintenance to cultivate a safe and sanitary environment that supports patient care. This includes managing patient room turnover efficiently to facilitate smooth patient throughput while adhering to stringent standards of environmental hygiene and infection control.
Primary Duties
- Address customer inquiries and resolve common complaints employing appropriate communication strategies.
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect patient rooms and ancillary spaces such as bathrooms, corridors, medication storage areas, and public zones using approved chemicals and cleaning methodologies.
- Utilize departmental technology systems, including bed management platforms, to support room management tasks.
- Restock supplies, dispose of biomedical waste, trash, and soiled linens, and change curtains as necessary to maintain cleanliness and safety.
- Conduct daily cleaning of patient rooms and bathrooms to support admission and discharge procedures, following established cleaning protocols.
- Demonstrate proficiency in healthcare cleaning principles, chemical safety, equipment handling, and use of labor-saving products within the healthcare setting.
- Comply with all health, safety, risk management, and infection prevention policies, fostering a culture of safety.
- Operate ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment in accordance with organizational policies.
- Engage proactively in departmental initiatives aimed at enhancing customer experience and sanitation quality.
- Adhere strictly to infection prevention measures including proper cleaning protocols, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment usage, and patient privacy standards (HIPAA).
- Support onboarding processes for new Environmental Services Technicians when requested.
- Report hazardous situations and submit maintenance requests for repairs through proper channels.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance aligning with organizational guidelines and relevant laws including ADA and FMLA.
- Stay compliant with all policies and procedures of the health system.
- Leverage appropriate resources to resolve identified issues effectively.
- Exhibit understanding of facility safety requirements and standard operational procedures.
- Properly operate and maintain all tools and equipment related to environmental services.
- Prepare and dismantle beds as required for cleaning following departmental procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by EVS leadership.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- At least two years of experience in healthcare support services, environmental services, hospitality, or related fields is required.
