Job summary
This role is focused on keeping hospital spaces clean, sanitary, and safe for patients, employees, and visitors. The position involves routine environmental services work such as floor maintenance, waste handling, linen management, spill response, and general cleaning in line with hospital procedures and infection prevention standards. The work supports patient safety, compliance requirements, and overall facility cleanliness.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out floor care activities such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and shampooing to keep surfaces clean and safe.
- Collect, transport, and dispose of waste correctly, including biohazardous, infectious, and noninfectious material, following hospital and regulatory rules.
- Process soiled linens, replace bag liners, and make sure linen is contained and stored appropriately.
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and shared spaces while following infection control requirements.
- Handle spill cleanup and contamination response, using proper disinfecting steps and safety practices.
- Move furniture, mats, and other equipment when needed for cleaning, maintenance, or departmental moves.
- Track supply usage carefully, control expenses appropriately, and store and use cleaning materials safely.
- Report maintenance or repair concerns to a supervisor or the facilities team so issues can be addressed quickly.
- Keep cleaning records up to date and document completed environmental services work accurately.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
- Maintain dependable, regular attendance.
- Follow all hospital policies, standards, and procedures.
Requirements
- 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial work, or hospital facility maintenance is required.
- Working knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, and floor care practices.
- Ability to safely manage biohazardous and infectious waste according to infection control standards.
- Understanding of equipment cleaning, upkeep, and correct usage.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work from cleaning schedules effectively.
- Familiarity with hospital policies, safety rules, and regulatory standards related to environmental services.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Good communication skills for professional interaction with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Environmental Services or Healthcare Cleaning certification, such as CHEST or CHESP, is preferred.
Additional information
This is a full-time onsite hospital role in Dothan, Alabama. The schedule is for evening work. The position involves direct responsibility for cleanliness, sanitation, and infection-control support across hospital areas.
