Job description
Job Summary
This position is responsible for keeping assigned hospital areas clean, safe, and welcoming through routine cleaning, floor maintenance, and waste handling. The role supports patient comfort, staff well-being, and visitor experience while following infection prevention practices and applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Duties
- Clean and disinfect assigned spaces such as patient rooms, corridors, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, elevators, stairwells, locker rooms, and other work areas in line with infection control expectations.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors, furnishings, and equipment using the proper tools and methods.
- Maintain hard floors and carpeted surfaces, including stripping, refinishing, and treating floors and upholstery according to department procedures.
- Wash walls, ceilings, windows, woodwork, door surfaces, and similar areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Replenish supplies in assigned locations, keep track of inventory levels, and report shortages when stock runs low.
- Collect, move, and dispose of regular waste and biohazardous materials safely, following all safety rules and HIPAA requirements.
- Use cleaning equipment correctly, keep it in working order, and report any breakdowns or repair needs.
- Help with small maintenance or repair tasks and escalate larger facility issues to the right team.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
- Maintain dependable, regular attendance.
- Follow all organization policies and standards.
Qualifications
Prior cleaning or environmental services experience of 1 to 2 years is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of cleaning products, tools, and methods.
- Awareness of infection prevention and workplace safety practices.
- Ability to use cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and good time management.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and move or lift items when needed.
State-Specific Requirement
- Indiana: IN Lutheran Hospital requires successful completion of the assigned SAMA course within 30 days after hire.
- Mississippi: Completion of the assigned SAMA course within 30 days after hire is required.
- North Carolina: Completion of the assigned SAMA course within 30 days after hire is required.
