Role overview
ByteDance is seeking an Employee Relations Partner for the APAC region to help deliver a smooth, supportive employee experience across the full employee journey. This role sits within the operations team, which focuses on simple and effective people processes, systems, policies, and programs. The team works with care and empathy so employees feel supported, heard, and equipped to succeed.
Key responsibilities
- Handle employee relations matters through to closure, including disciplinary action, misconduct, performance concerns, grievances, redundancies, and complex absence cases.
- Lead independent investigations into complicated HR issues, assess evidence carefully, and arrive at well-supported conclusions.
- Advise business teams on ER cases, warning and disciplinary actions, policy interpretation, and regional employment practices.
- Keep thorough and accurate records for ER matters, including investigation write-ups and case analysis.
- Design and deliver training and learning sessions that strengthen HRBP and leader capability and improve ER decisions.
- Work closely with business leaders and HR business partners to maintain healthy employee relations practices.
- Partner with employment legal and investigations teams to balance risk and support sound decision-making.
- Review patterns and trends in ER cases to identify root causes and recommend corrective solutions.
- Support a consistent and coordinated approach to case handling across employee relations matters.
Qualifications
The role calls for at least 5 years of employee relations experience, along with proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and contribute effectively in a team environment. Candidates should be comfortable working in a complex, demanding, and fast-moving setting, and must have a solid understanding of APAC employment law and regulatory frameworks, including the implications of disciplinary action, warnings, and related corrective measures.
Preferred qualities
Strong judgment in sensitive, unclear, or difficult situations is highly valued, as is the ability to work credibly with senior business leaders and other internal partners. The ideal candidate will bring confidence, resilience, professionalism, strong communication skills, and excellent attention to detail. The ability to manage confidential information with discretion is also important.
