Elementary Education Teacher, Probationary (Crompond)

Role overview

Under the guidance of the Principal, this position is responsible for supporting elementary students’ academic and social growth by delivering district-approved curriculum, tracking learning progress, meeting individual needs, and maintaining a classroom environment that is safe, adaptable, and supportive. The teacher will also keep students, families, and administration informed about progress, goals, and expectations.

Minimum qualifications

• New York State certification for grades K-6.
• Previous classroom experience at the relevant grade level is an advantage.
• Experience or familiarity with inclusive classroom settings is required/preferred as applicable to the role.

Primary responsibilities

• Plan and deliver the elementary curriculum in line with district goals and objectives.
• Create a classroom atmosphere that supports safety, focused instruction, and active learning in both individual and small-group formats.
• Prepare lesson plans and instructional resources, then turn them into effective learning experiences that make the best use of instructional time.
• Monitor student progress continuously and adjust teaching approaches to suit individual needs, including those of students with special needs; provide individual and small-group support when needed.
• Teach students responsible citizenship and any other required subject matter under applicable laws and school regulations.
• Continue professional development through seminars, workshops, meetings, and independent research to stay current in education.
• Maintain accurate records for grades, attendance, reporting, and student achievement in accordance with district procedures and legal requirements.
• Promote family engagement and keep communication with parents and guardians clear and effective.
• Enforce school and district behavior expectations to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Work with grade-level and other elementary staff to review curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
• Choose and request books, learning materials, and other classroom supplies, while keeping inventory records up to date.
• Supervise students during non-classroom activities, including school transportation-related activities when required.
• Administer standardized assessments according to district testing rules.
• Carry out other duties assigned by the Principal or central office administrators designated by the Superintendent.

Skills, knowledge, and abilities

• Understanding of modern teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
• Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum content and concepts.
• Ability to work with student data, analyze results, and develop action plans.
• Awareness of federal and state education laws affecting students and schools.
• Comfort using computer networks and common software tools.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication with students and parents.
• Ability to assess one’s own performance and pursue professional improvement.
• Capability to build cooperative working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders.

Salary

The annual salary range for the 2025/2026 year is $62,306 to $135,587.
