Job description

The Role

We are looking for a permanent, full-time Educational Interpreter to support learners and teaching staff across the Enrolled School Provisions in Hillmorton, Wharenui, and Hagley. In this position, you will interpret and translate within the learning environment so students can understand what is being taught, take part fully, and achieve their goals. Success in this role requires the ability to adjust your communication style to suit the teaching approach, each learner’s needs, and their language level.

About You

To do well in this position, you should bring approved New Zealand Sign Language qualifications together with interpreter training. Experience in educational settings, sign language resource creation, or translation work is preferred but not essential. You will need a current driver licence, a strong self-starting attitude, flexibility, and the ability to manage your own workload. A solid understanding of Deaf culture, a learner-focused mindset, and the ability to adapt to different situations and needs are also important.

The preferred candidate will have a genuine interest in education, communication, and helping learners succeed across a range of age groups and learning stages. Registration with the Sign Language Interpreters Association of New Zealand is also expected.

How To Apply

Applications should be submitted online. Only people who are legally allowed to work in New Zealand and are available for an interview will be considered. Shortlisting and interviews may begin before the closing date, so early applications are encouraged. The application deadline is 5:00 pm on Sunday, 19 July 2026.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
