Resource Teacher of the Deaf - Whangarei

The Role / Te Mahi

• Seeking a creative, engaging educator with excellent communication skills and a cooperative team spirit, crucial for success in this role.
• Position involves working within mainstream and specialized schools to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students, their whānau, and school staff. This full-time fixed term role for the 2027 school year is based at Tikipunga High School.
• Responsibilities include managing an assigned caseload, maintaining related records, and actively collaborating with families to promote student participation and achievement in education and life.

Requirements for this Position / Ngā Herenga mō te Mahi

• Demonstrated experience and best practices in working with Deaf children and/or mainstream students.
• Must be a qualified Teacher of the Deaf or an experienced New Zealand registered teacher.
• Possession of a current clean driver's license is mandatory.
• Use of personal vehicle required, with mileage reimbursement subject to conditions.
• Existing skills or willingness to learn New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and listening and spoken language methods tailored for DHH learners.
• Recent hands-on experience with early levels of the New Zealand Curriculum is essential.
