Job description
Role Overview
The Director of Strategic Policy and Projects leads dedicated teams focused on Aboriginal Policy and Priority Projects. This leadership role involves working collaboratively across the department and with Aboriginal organisations to foster and implement department-wide initiatives aimed at fulfilling the Victorian Government’s promises related to self-determination and closing the gap.
This position is pivotal in supervising and coordinating the deployment of Closing the Gap and self-determination initiatives throughout the department. You will provide strategic, expert advice on policy and oversee the execution of key departmental projects and programs. Additionally, you will support the Executive Director by contributing to leadership within the division and participating in critical advisory groups and governance frameworks to empower Aboriginal communities and organisations.
Key Accountabilities
- Offer strategic leadership and guidance to ensure the department meets objectives related to Aboriginal self-determination and related outcomes.
- Deliver expert, authoritative advice on Aboriginal policy and program development to senior department leaders and relevant Ministers.
- Develop and maintain a high-performing, evidence-based, resilient, and collaborative team by employing strong leadership, team-building practices, and effective business planning in dynamic, high-pressure settings.
Abilities and Knowledge
Successful candidates will possess deep understanding of Aboriginal culture, self-determination, policy frameworks, and program implementation, coupled with advanced leadership capabilities, negotiation skills, and the ability to foster team cohesion.
