Job description
Position Overview
The Director of the Office for Youth within the Disability Homes, Veterans and Youth branch leads a dedicated unit focused on advancing initiatives impacting young Victorians aged 12 to 25. This leadership role is centered on amplifying youth voices on issues that matter most to them.
This role requires collaboration with the Disability, Fairness and Emergency Management executive team, government bodies, and key youth sector stakeholders to foster improved social and economic opportunities for young people.
Primary Responsibilities
- Offer expert counsel on complex policy and budget matters to the Minister for Youth, the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and senior departmental leaders, addressing significant issues with strategic insights and conflict resolution options concerning youth policy.
- Recognize upcoming youth policy challenges and orchestrate the development, coordination, and execution of strategic policy initiatives and programs within allocated budgets, often under time constraints and sensitive conditions.
- Ensure timely delivery of critical government priorities by effectively managing processes, planning, and strong liaison to produce consistent high-quality results.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Proven leadership and management skills within government or similar organizational contexts.
- Comprehensive understanding of public and social policy frameworks.
- Experience with community engagement, program design and implementation, budget oversight, and grants management.
- Possess or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check as mandated.
