Job description

About the company

Mastercard is a global payments technology company that works across more than 200 countries and territories to make commerce safer, easier, smarter, and more inclusive. Through digital payment solutions, partnerships, data, and innovation, the company helps consumers, businesses, financial institutions, and governments reach their full potential.

The organization’s culture is guided by its decency quotient, reflecting the way it collaborates internally and with partners around the world.

Role overview

The Director - SME Sales Specialist will be based in a hybrid Riyadh/Jeddah setup in Saudi Arabia and will report to the SME Head of Commercialization for East & West Arabia. This role calls for a strategic, consultative leader who can act as a trusted advisor to clients while also driving execution with discipline.

What you will do

You will lead SME growth planning and execution, pairing sales leadership with advisory support to help clients uncover opportunities, address business challenges, and improve revenue and profitability through tailored solutions.

The role involves building and managing a healthy pipeline, engaging customers directly in a consultative way, conducting on-site discussions, assessing needs, shaping opportunities, and positioning solutions across financial institutions and non-financial partners.

You will identify, originate, and close new business opportunities, create SME ecosystem initiatives, and support the commercialization of signed agreements so that revenue outcomes are measurable.

You will also contribute to SME P&L goals across key customers in Saudi Arabia while supporting broader regional expert sales priorities tied to the country strategy.

Another part of the role is spotting opportunities for new products, propositions, and business innovation within SME payment segments.

In addition, you will provide subject matter guidance by working closely with clients and internal teams to diagnose needs, shape recommendations, and drive execution across sales, product, and market functions.

Leadership is an important element of the job, including coaching and developing a strong-performing team culture centered on accountability, collaboration, execution, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Mastercard is looking for someone with deep knowledge of SME products and services, including SME card and solution offerings, along with significant experience in SME sales and business development.

Applicants should bring broad business experience in the payments sector, with a solid understanding of both commercial and consumer payments.

Strong strategic thinking and consulting ability are essential, especially the ability to assess client needs, turn market insights into action, and influence senior decision-makers.

The role also requires experience in consulting, solution selling, or advisory-style account management, ideally with direct, on-site customer engagement to shape opportunities, support implementation, and drive results.

Strong negotiation and influencing skills are important, particularly when working through stakeholders and partners who do not directly report to the role.

Leadership capability is required, including the ability to coach, develop, and motivate teams toward performance goals.

Candidates should have a strong bias for action and a disciplined, results-oriented approach to commercial targets.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are needed to identify issues early and resolve them directly or through escalation when required.

Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills are also essential, along with executive presence for senior-level client conversations and strategic discussions.

Security responsibilities

Anyone working for or on behalf of Mastercard must treat information security as a core responsibility. This includes following security policies and practices, protecting the confidentiality and integrity of information, reporting any suspected breach or violation, and completing required periodic security training.
